Founder & Principal
Byron Durias is an experienced organizational and educational leader with more than two decades of experience leading people, teams, and complex organizations through change, transformation, and growth.
Throughout his career, Byron has led organizations through significant improvement efforts, developed high-performing leadership teams, and facilitated collective visioning processes that bring people together around a shared direction. His experience spans strategic planning, organizational transformation, implementation, organizational culture and climate, educator recruitment and retention, student achievement, family and community engagement, and creating stronger conditions for people and organizations to thrive.
His leadership is grounded in both evidence and collective action. Byron has used stakeholder feedback, surveys, accountability data, performance measures, culture and climate indicators, and other organizational evidence to understand what is happening, identify barriers, establish priorities, and measure progress. He helps teams move from data and competing perspectives toward shared understanding, collective vision, strategic action, and sustained improvement.
A defining characteristic of Byron's leadership is his ability to balance conviction with discernment. He brings a forceful yet gentle leadership presence—knowing when to push, when to pause, and when to create space for others to move. He reads people and organizational dynamics well and understands that meaningful change requires both strong relationships and clear expectations.
Byron has led major implementation efforts involving academic and career pathways, innovative learning environments, technology, organizational systems, and school transformation. He led the implementation and transformation of a $5.6 million Magnet Schools Assistance Program initiative, translating a significant investment into expanded opportunities, innovative programming, and organizational change. He has also led efforts to strengthen educator recruitment and retention, improve organizational culture and climate, increase family engagement and student belonging, and improve organizational and student outcomes.
His experience extends beyond the organizations he has directly led. Byron has been entrusted with opportunities to contribute his perspective through national advisory councils, boards, committees, and leadership initiatives. He served multiple years as an Advisory Council Member with Assessment for Good, an initiative of the American Education Research and Development Fund (AERDF), contributing to broader conversations around education research, innovation, and improvement. He also served on the Carnegie Education Advisory Panel and has been selected for multiple leadership development programs in Florida that brought together accomplished leaders to examine complex issues facing education and the state.
Byron was selected as an ASCD Emerging Leader in 2017 and has presented and facilitated nationally at conferences and for organizations, contributing to conversations around leadership, equity, instructional improvement, and school transformation. He has also mentored emerging and new leaders throughout his career.
His work has been recognized through honors including Principal of the Year, the Lamp of Knowledge Award, and recognition of schools he led through national merit programs. Yet the accomplishments he values most are not the awards themselves, but the opportunities created and the outcomes improved for the people he served. Throughout his career, Byron has focused on creating stronger conditions for teachers and students to succeed—strengthening cultures, expanding opportunities, developing educators and leaders, increasing belonging and engagement, and helping organizations achieve meaningful, sustained improvement.
Byron is most proud of what happens when people work together toward something greater than what any one individual could accomplish.
Across schools, organizations, boards, committees, and professional communities, he has worked alongside others to build shared vision, develop people, solve complex problems, and create impact that extends beyond any single leader.
That belief now shapes the work of Principal Solutions Group.
Byron founded PSG to help leaders and organizations better understand the challenges they face, look beneath the surface of visible problems, engage the right people, and develop practical solutions that strengthen both performance and the systems that support it.
At PSG, he believes the best solutions begin with the right diagnosis.
Clear thinking. Sound judgment. Principled leadership. Practical solutions.
The principles that guide everything we do
See clearly so we can move forward.
We seek to understand people, organizations, and challenges with clarity so that better decisions can lead to better outcomes.
Make decisions that make a difference.
We believe thoughtful, informed decisions can strengthen individuals, improve organizations, and create better conditions for the people they serve.
Lead in ways that make others better.
Leadership carries a responsibility beyond ourselves. We strive to lead with character, purpose, and a commitment to helping others grow and thrive.
Good thinking, better outcomes.
We develop solutions that work in the real world; solutions that help individuals get better, organizations get better, and communities become stronger.
Ultimately, the work is about people.
We believe better leadership can help people flourish, stronger organizations can strengthen the communities they serve, and healthier communities create greater opportunity for everyone to thrive.
Better leadership. Better organizations. Stronger Communities.
